LUKA ter laak ON HIS SMALL STUDIO, THE DARKNESS OF MELODIC TECHNO, AND HIS TRACK FORTUNA.
Tell us about your background and how it has influenced your music?
I come from a family of four, just me, my sister, and my loving parents. As a child, I always loved doing creative stuff. My parents always supported me even now! I try to put the same love that my parents always give me into my music.
Where did you create your latest track, Fortuna?
I created my track Fortuna in my small studio inside my bedroom. I quite enjoy my studio, because it's just me with the music and I can lose track of time there.
When you produce techno, who are you writing for?
When I produce, I write for myself. I know what feeling I want to achieve and what kind of quality to expect from myself. Making my tracks also really helps me process feelings and grow as a person.
Which do you prefer; progressive or melodic?
I think they both have their unique qualities. But if I had to choose, I would go for melodic because I like the darker sound. I feel like there is more room for creativity in melodic house/techno.
What has kept you going through the pandemic, aside from music?
Spending time with my friends is what kept me going. It is important to me. After seeing my friends, I always have tons of new energy and experiences, and I use this as inspiration.
